Below are the default directories for every Mac users. Everyone can store anything on their home directory even their names are specific for each of them. However, it ’s recommended to use them as they are because those iLife software use it for default data including their settings directory.
Desktop : This directory is actually a shortcut to your desktop folder so that it contains icons/application on user’s desktop. is A desktop folder
Documents : The default directory when saving file from most application. However, user can store any kind of document here.
Library : A default directory to store application settings/library when they are used.
Movies : Store movies file and data settings for iPhoto application
Music : Keep all your musics and sound files to this directory. iTunes application also stores its library into this directory.
Pictures : Keep your photos here. iPhotos also stores its data and library in this directory.
Public : Use this folder when you want to share files across the network.
Sites : Once you activated web service on your computer, put all your HTML files or website content here.
As I said earlier, no need to strict to store files to each directory by their names. I would say this is to help you organize your stuffs on your computer which will help you in the soon future to find and use them as their names mean to
